Greens NSW MP and Transport, Roads and Ports spokesperson Dr Mehreen Faruqi has announced that the Greens have launched a new campaign today for world-class transport in NSW.
The ‘Transform Transport’ campaign calls on the NSW government to take three broad actions: invest in public and active transport, cancel unnecessary toll roads, and adopt bold mode share targets for public transport use across the state.
Dr Faruqi said:
“For far too long, the transport agenda in New South Wales has been dominated by building massive new polluting toll roads and privatising our existing transport system.
“Both the Coalition and Labor have neglected public transport, opted for a piecemeal approach, and allowed for the system to deteriorate and fail to keep up with the needs of our growing population.
“This campaign calls on the government to take three broad actions: invest in public and active transport, cancel unnecessary toll roads, and adopt bold mode share targets for public transport use across the state.
“Over the next few months, the campaign will be making its way around the state. I look forward to meeting with communities to discuss their transport needs and putting pressure on the government to take the necessary actions,” she said.
